The project aims at the development and implementation of integrated water resources management policy to Anthemounta river basin in Northern Greece through the application of a public, social wide local agreement, utilizing the principles of Agenda 21 and of Water Framework Directive (WFD) 2000/60/EC.
The proposed project represents a first full-scale application of the principles and guidelines of WFD in Greece. Its expected results include solutions of technical, economic, social and administrative problems confronting the issue of water resources management. In project's frame, sustainable water policy will be implemented in order to confront the serious quantity, quality and environmental problems.
The project results have high reproducibility in methodology & policy development facing many environmental problems. The methodology of "motivation of stakeholders" and "social agreement on a strategic plan" is the key solution for the environmental governing of the 21st century.
